Use a whisk, preferably silicone, to avoid scratching the pan. Mix well to smooth the breadcrumbs.<\/p>\n<p>2. <strong>Dilute with milk:<\/strong> Always, off the heat, add a little cold milk and whisk to dilute. Add a little more milk and whisk to smooth and liquefy.<\/p>\n<p>3. <strong>Thicken:<\/strong> Stir in remaining milk and return to medium heat to thicken. The mixture should be smooth and lump-free. If not, strain the mixture through a sieve.<\/p>\n<p>4. It will gradually thicken. Season with salt, pepper and a pinch of nutmeg. When it starts to bubble, it will have thickened considerably. Remove from heat when smooth and creamy. It will thicken further as it cools.<\/p>\n<p>6. Set aside to cool, stirring occasionally. Close each sandwich with a slice of sandwich bread.<\/p>\n<p>6. Spread bechamel sauce over the top of each croque monsieur and sprinkle with cheese, in this case Gruy\u00e8re.<\/p>\n<p>2. Place in the oven for 15-20 minutes, until the cheese has melted and the bread is golden brown.<\/p>\n<p>3. You can then put them on the grill for 3 to 4 minutes to brown the cheese.<\/p>\n<p>Serve and enjoy :<\/p>\n<p>Serve immediately with a few salad leaves drizzled with vinaigrette and fries if you want to enjoy your croque monsieur like in a traditional bistro.<\/p>\n<p>You can use a fork and knife or enjoy it by hand. If not, strain the mixture through a sieve.<\/div><\/li><li id=\"wprm-recipe-37938-step-0-4\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\" style=\"list-style-type: decimal;\"><div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-text\" style=\"margin-bottom: 5px;\">Whisk continuously to prevent the b\u00e9chamel sauce from sticking to the bottom of the pan and burning.<\/div><\/li><\/ul><\/div><div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-group\"><h4 class=\"wprm-recipe-group-name wprm-recipe-instruction-group-name wprm-block-text-bold\">Preparing the bechamel sauce<\/h4><ul class=\"wprm-recipe-instructions\"><li id=\"wprm-recipe-37938-step-1-0\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\" style=\"list-style-type: decimal;\"><div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-text\" style=\"margin-bottom: 5px;\"><span style=\"display: block;\">It will gradually thicken.
