Tips for a Successful Virgin Strawberry Mojito
Ingredient selection: Use strawberries, lime (or lemon), mint leaves, ice cubes, sugar or syrup, and a sparkling drink like Sprite, 7UP, or Schweppes for a more flavorful result than plain sparkling water. You can use fresh strawberries, thawed frozen ones, or, if necessary, just strawberry syrup.
Muddle the ingredients properly: Use a muddler to release the aromas of the lime and mint. A fork can work in a pinch, but a muddler gives a deeper, more flavorful result.
Adjust quantities to your taste: Vary the amount of mint (8 to 18 leaves), sugar, and strawberries (about 6 per glass). You can also blend some of the strawberries into a coulis for extra intensity.
Use tall, wide glasses: Highball glasses are ideal for serving this kind of cocktail.
Whole ice cubes or crushed ice? Whole ice cubes melt more slowly, while crushed ice helps keep the fruit and mint pieces at the bottom of the glass. Choose whichever you prefer, it’s all about personal taste.
Making several servings? Muddle the strawberries, mint, and lime (or lemon) in a large container, such as a measuring jug or bowl. Then divide the mixture evenly between the glasses before adding ice and lemonade. This saves time and helps the flavors blend more evenly.
